Volckamer Citrus Print on antique page

This stunning combination is an 18th Century Volckamer Lemon engraving reproduced on a laid paper leaf from a 1760 edition of Jean de la Fontaine's Fables.

Volckamer was a wealthy Nuremburg merchant who had his own orangery. He engaged a variety of artists and engravers to produce plates devoted to citrus fruits, with ribbons above views of the gardens, towns and palaces of Germany, Austria and Italy. These were originally published in 1708.

Antique laid printed paper overlaid with reproduction of an antique print. Condition is good with some toning to edges of folio.
